Camping, one of America’s favorite summertime pastimes, was designed with the phrase “the more, the merrier!” in mind. Why this is true, stems largely from the fact that camping provides us with a visit back to basic human conditions of past years, largely when we were “cave men” and women, alike. The very act of barbequing food mirrors that of how our ancestors used to eat every day of their lives, before modern civilization came into play. They were only as “primitive” as they ever could be, given the circumstances! But, I digress; back to camping with a good amount of people, lets’ say up to six. What are the choices? Will a 6 person tent really be enough? Let’s explore this, shall we?

First of all, let’s assume you are going camping with your family. Your family consists of you and your spouse and 4 children. No one has a recreational vehicle, but Dad manages to find a tent that will fit up o 6 people – great! (By the way, the Coleman 6 person tent and the Kelty 6 person tent are great for these occasions…) Now you can go camping and all of you will be comfortable in the tent together. Or, maybe not! Still, chances are that you will all get along, even if the first night is a little cumbersome. Most people will adjust to a different way of living just outside 24 hours. It’s yet another little instinct that we inherited from our ancestors, since survival is the main key to remember for anyone who is spending the night outside our own home. This rings true for hotel and motel room lodging, as well. No person ever admitted to having slept a really good night in an unfamiliar place. This is because we have that strong, survival instinct that keeps us on the “alert”, for at least 24 hours at a time. It’s pretty amazing, when you think about it.

Getting back to camping, normally the idea of going on a camping trip is to relax and enjoy yourself with family or friends. The worse thing that you ever want to do while going camping is to become either nervous or anxious, since it really defeats the whole purpose of going on a camping trip in the first place. Naturally, part of this anxiety can come from close living quarters with others, so how to make the best of a close-knit situation, even for a couple of nights, depends much on where everyone has decided to sleep. Since sleeping is very important, so is the location where we sleep. Once it has been decided where everyone will sleep, it’s pretty much gravy from that point forward, meaning easy as far as getting along.

Most tents that are designed to accommodate up to 6 people really do fit that many, since the idea is for 6 of the largest men to be able to fit into such a tent with ease and comfort. Chances are that, unless you are going hunting with a large company of men (up to six of you!), you will be more than comfortable with your significant other and kids, or even two other couples, should that make up your camping party. If you still want more elbow room, consider buying one of the over sized 6 person tents available or just bump up to an 8 man tent.

There are quite a few reasons why you should buy 6 man tents over smaller tents. The 6 man tents come in varying designs and colors, and you will be surprised to see how amazingly modern and logical their design have turned to be.

With a 6 man tent, you have the advantage of being able to bring a big camping group together under one roof, or enjoy a couple’s weekend camping with a lot of room and space to make the trip even more relaxing.

If you get the 6 man tent with the Geodesic design, you have the advantage of additional stability because of the design of the frame. Also, with the Geodesic frame, you can stand inside the tent comfortably, and not feel like you are cooped up like a chicken.

A 6 man tent comes with two different kinds of poles: the aluminum poles and the fiberglass poles. The difference between the two poles is that the fiberglass is more flexible which decreases chances of the poles breaking apart as easily. On the other hand, fiberglass poles are more expensive to replace.

If you get the dome-shaped 6 man tents, you have the advantage of the tent being self supporting. This means that you can set up camp even on concrete floors because you don’t need to use stakes to hold the tent down. Of course, you will need to reinforce the stability of the tent during windy days and nights.

Aside from the technical advantages of the 6 man tents, you have the advantage of price and convenience. This means that since a 6 man tent can accommodate more people under one tent, you do not have to worry about sleeping quarters, setting up several tents, or carrying so many tents with you. Furthermore, you get to save on space and energy because you only have to set up one tent, instead of several. They make fantastic family tents.

As far as budget is concerned, you can save quite a bit on your purchases because several smaller tents will definitely cost more than one big tent.

The 6 man tent has been getting a lot of attention because of the fact that it looks good and it makes sense to just bring one tent instead of several. In fact, security-wise, you have the additional advantage of having all your personal belongings under one roof, and this means less chances of it getting lost or misplaced.

If you don’t plant to camp much, go for an inexpensive 6 man tent. However, if you are a camping fiend like I am, get the best 6 man tent you can afford. Your investment will pay dividends for years to come.

Aside from its obvious cute appeal, the 6 man dome tent is a popular choice among campers, especially backpackers because it is easy to put up. Another reason would be the fact that you can actually stand up inside the 6 man dome tent, which is a great luxury after the old kind of A-shaped camping tents.

If you have been camping before, you know the back-breaking experience of having to creep around the tent the whole time, and come out looking like you have your nose to the ground. Plus, the stretching part after bending down from the waist for a quite a while can be excruciating.

Albeit the 6 man dome tent is heavier than the other tent designs, it more than makes up for the fact that you don’t have to bend. Also, you don’t have as much floor space as the other 6 man tent designs, but if you are organized and neat, this should not be a real problem at all.

The later models of the 6 man dome tents are more square in design, and this can give you even more floor space. The new geodesic dome tents are equipped with an extra pole to keep it standing, but this is not so much a disadvantage, as it is an advantage. This is because the extra pole decreases any possible wind pressure that may blow on the tent.

You can expect to have a “rainfly” on your 6 man dome tent. This is an additional cover that you use to open the ventilation windows or doors and keep the rain from coming in, just like an awning.

As you can see, there are several reasons for the immense popularity of a 6 man dome tent. However, what can really sway a person from choosing a dome tent over a regular tent would be the fact that it has a modern look that makes sense, and becomes very usable. It reminiscent of an Arabian Nights kind of tent, and this just adds to the allure of a dome tent.

Moreover, the fact that you can comfortably fit in 6 people inside the dome tent makes it a great camping adventure for everyone. From dawn to dusk, you have a chance to keep the group or family together under one roof.

The prices of dome tents may be a little on the high side, but if you look carefully, and do some surfing on the internet, you will likely come across a good deal on a brand new 6 man dome tent. Some good ones to look for are a Coleman dome tent (especially the Coleman 10 x 10 Sundome tent), a Wenzel tent or a Kelty tent.

Kelty is a company that has been in business for many, many years. It specializes in camping equipment and accessories, like its Kelty 6 man tent. There are several designs of the Kelty 6 man tent. They are the Grand Mesa 6, the Green River 6, Trail Dome 6, and Yellowstone 6. All these designs are well-equipped to handle 6 adults inside the tent.

What makes Kelty stand above the rest of the tent manufacturers? For one, they have been receiving awards for their products. Just this year, they were recognized for their Shiro 4 and 6 tent which received the Camping Life Editor’s Choice Golden Stake Award. It was a cut above all other tents.

You can expect the same quality and attention to detail with the other Kelty tents, like the 6 man tents.

For example, the Grand Mesa 6 has a vestibule and known for its very well placed ventilation features. It’s a steal at $279.95, and it can fit 6 people easily inside. Pitching this tent is easy as a breeze, as well as carrying it to campsite.

The Green River 6 has the added bonus of shades in its vestibule. This can provide a great deal of privacy and protection from outside buys or peering eyes. It sells for a bit more than the Grand Mesa at $369.95.

One of the interesting facts about Kelty products is that they lasts for years. Their style and designs do not grow old, and you could depend on these tents year after year because the materials used are very durable, and the designs are well thought out.

The Trail Dome 6 is a dome-shaped tent usually bought by families. Incredibly it is designed to provide you with a fantastic view of starry night even if you are inside the tent. It’s price is between the Grand Mesa 6 and the Green River because it uses a simple pole design which makes it very user friendly.

The Yellowstone 6, named apparently after Yellowstone Park is one of the most inexpensive 6 man tents you will find at less than $200. In spite of that, you can expect to get a spacious and comfortable tent. It’s not luxurious, but it is quite acceptable as sleeping quarters outdoors. You could not expect anything better at this price.

The advantage of Kelty 6 man tents is that it carries with it a reputation for excellence in design, comfort, and durability. This is part of what you are paying for when you buy a Kelty tent. Furthermore, it comes with a limited warranty of one year, and this alone pushes sales of Kelty tents over the top.

If you are on the hunt for the best 6 man tent, then this means only one thing: you are a true-blue adventurous camper who loves to go out with a few of his best buddies (or family), and experience the great outdoors.

If space is what you need, then the 6 man tent would probably fit your needs to tee. However, there is more than space to enjoy when you buy a 6 man tent. You will need to look for a 6 man tent that has pockets for storage inside the tent. This is crucial because without these pockets, you would have a mess what with 6 people and their personal belongings all under one roof. Aside from the sides of the tent being used for the pockets, a great 6 man tent should also have some form of storage overhead for hanging bags or small items. At best, all the space inside the tent should have a purpose.

Price is another consideration to think about. There is a wide range of 6 man tents that cover top of the line to budget or tents on sale. Over and above the price, you should consider comfort and convenience. Of course, a higher priced 6 man tent should have better features and materials, and not just bank on its brand name.

In fact, you can buy inexpensive 6 man tents that could possibly be the best 6 man tents around because of its spacious interior and logical functionality. This means that not only should it be relatively easy to set up and store, the best 6 man tent should also be high enough to stand up inside, provided you are not extremely tall.

Look for a 6 man tent that has more than one door, preferably on opposite ends. This will definitely come in handy when you’re all inside the tent. Most of the candidates for best 6 man tents come with a vestibule that is wide and spacious to provide you with additional storage space and personal space as well.

Naturally, ventilation is of the utmost importance. Aside from 2 doors, the best 6 man tent should also have windows with mesh cover to keep the bugs out.

As far as price is concerned, buying a 6 man tent is probably much more practical than buying 3 or 4 tents. It may be heavier than the smaller tents, but it should definitely be something a man can carry around.

In the mood for group sharing quarters? If you are planning a camping trip, you might want to consider shared quarters. There are several reason why a 6 man tent would be perfect for a group.

The first would be cost. The amount of savings you could generate by using a 6 man tent would be multiple. Aside from the actual cost of the 6 man tent which is much more practical than buying 3 or 4 single and dual tents, you will be saving on camping ground fees. You will also save on consumables like basic needs. You won’t have to buy double or triple of just about anything. Think about it.

If you have 3 tents, you would have to supply separate toiletries like insect spray, alcohol, lotion, and even snacks. Other savings could come from not having to need as much space in your backpack or car for multiple tents.

Other advantages of buying a 6 man tent would be the incredible opportunity to bond as a group. After all, camping is all about having an adventure as a group, so team building activities would be a great plus. Imagine the grand time you would have day and night, sharing secrets and activities – these are the stuff memories are made of.

If you have been convinced that a 6 man tent would be the better option, then the issue now would be how to choose the best 6 man tent. Of course, if you have yet to be fully convinced, you could continue to see the different features of a 6 man tent, and be on your way to deciding to get your own 6 man tent.

The best way to go shopping for a 6 man tent would be to surf the internet. You will learn the different brands and features. Looks for popular brands such as the Kelty 6 man tent or the Ozark Trail 6 man tent. However, to cut it short, here are some of the essential features you should look for in a 6 man tent.

Easy To Set Up

For the size, you need to be able to set up the tent easily. It should not be a case of taking 6 people to put up the tent. There are the regular shaped tents or the dome shaped tents. The choice is more of personal preference than anything else.

Ventilation

With 6 people inside a tent, it is important to have proper ventilation. Look for tents with good airflow, and not too much condensation.

Roomy Interior

The hardest part about 6 man tents would be moving around the tent, so look for one that allows for some degree of maneuvering while inside the tent. Of course, a lot of the space would have to do with the things you put inside. For this reason, it is important also to find a tent that has pockets for storage.

Finding a 6 man tent that you can use over and over again is not a difficult task because there are so many excellent brands out in the market. Camping is a truly great American outdoor experience, and one that everyone would be interested in trying at least once.
